Sharaan Resort, conceived by The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), will be a premier development comprising a luxury resort, residential estates, a spa and an international summit center.
The resort will be located in a valley deep inside the newly-created Sharaan Nature Reserve. This site was chosen for its dramatic landscape configuration featuring high clifs, rocky plateaus and spectacular sand dunes.
Iconic French architect Jean Nouvel and his team will design this unique project. Known for designing the Louvre Abu Dhabi, as well as an array of iconic culture, hotel, residential and business structures across the globe, Nouvel’s team will thoroughly integrate the natural surroundings and interpret the cultural heritage of the region into the project.
Nouvel said: “The location is rooted in history, it is rooted in the history of the land, the history of the Nabateans. To be able to frame the Sharaan landscape at different heights is amazing, discovering the distant horizons, discovering the different qualities of light. It will also mean inventing, based on the irregularities of nature and geography. Architecture helps in this. Art helps. We should see what is built here as art.”
40 keys including 25 suites, 10 pavilions, and 5 resort residential estates with an anticipated completion by 2023. There will also be 40 separate residential estates as well as an International summit center.
Completion is anticipated for 2023. It is hoped that the monumental resort will be an anchor point to a larger portfolio of hospitality offerings for AlUla.
