“Downtown Jeddah”, a major transformational project, has been announced for Saudi Arabia’s second largest city.  The 75 billion riyals (20 billion dollars) was launched by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and financed by the Public Investment Fund (PIF).  With a contemporary interpretation of historical architecture, the project will usher in new trends in lifestyle, hospitality and residential offerings.

The project exemplifies Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy by developing and diversifying the tourism product in Jeddah. The project includes new museums, hospitals, cultural venues, exhibitions, sports centers, and social areas. New coastal, maritime spaces, shopping, and commercial activities will open with the best international standards to satisfy both Jeddah residents and visitors.

Six distinct districts are envisioned in the plans:  Central District, a hub for local and international tourists; Marina District, connecting central Jeddah to the Red Sea; Beach District, a stylish neighborhood for living and socializing; Sports Park, high-end living within parks and plazas; Culture and Creativity District, supporting art and innovation, and Wellness District, a medical and health center.

Plans also include 17,000 residential units and more than 2,700 hotel rooms.  The Downtown Jeddah project has many natural features, including the waterfront with a water strip of 9.5 kilometers long.  It contains a marina with international specifications prepared to receive yachts from inside and outside the Kingdom and a sandy beach with a length of more than 2 km.

Downtown Jeddah will roll-out over three phases with Phase I expected to be completed in 2027.
